Honoree's Remarks
As a student of anthropology, I chose to conduct most of my fieldwork in the Czech Republic. I was inspired by a country that elected a playwright as president because of his ardent advocacy for human rights. Vaclav Havel is an important Czech literary and political figure who spoke truth to power, which is important to remember to do in any political age.
