Honoree's Remarks

This was my textbook in the very first engineering course I took during my undergraduate work. I still have my copy of the book, and even now, when I touch or open the book, it takes me back to the mixed feelings of elation about having chosen to pursue Mechanical Engineering, and uncertainty about the future that I had at that time. As the semester progressed, I remember falling in love with the classical explanations of thermodynamic processes in the book, and having a feeling that I might enjoy doing this throughout my life. Almost twenty years after then, I still treasure the simplicity and pervasiveness of the principles of thermodynamics, and do my best to share my feelings with my students.
