Honoree's Remarks

Global Warming is one of the great societal issues of modern times and a key research topic in atmospheric and oceanic sciences. This book has been selected for the UTA library because it summarizes the highlights of two centuries of research on the topic of climate change forecast. The book consists of a collection of influential papers, including the postulation of the greenhouse effect by Jean-Baptiste Joseph Fourier in 1827, and a pioneering prediction of the Earth’s temperature rise in response to an increase in the atmospheric CO2 concentration by Nobel laureate Svante Arrhenius in 1896. The studies summarized in this book laid the foundation to present-day comprehensive climate models that I have applied to improve the understanding of environmental consequences of climate change, such as widespread anoxia and ocean acidification.
