The book I chose is one that was written by my maternal grandfather, Dr. Wilburg Jiménez Castro, more than 50 years ago. For me, this book epitomizes his determination to rise despite the many adversities he faced growing up, and his dedication to making sure he could contribute, in one way or another, to those around him and his community. The values that he, my grandmother, and my mother instilled in me, including always putting those you love the most first, working hard for what you want, and never giving up on your dreams are at the core of his work and now mine. I owe my education to him, and I hope to one day be able to make a fraction of the impact he's had on others myself.
