Honoree's Remarks

I've chosen this book because of my special relationship to its author. He was one of my personal mentors as a conductor and musician. During my undergraduate years at the University of Texas at Arlington, he came and conducted a concert that featured Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. As a member of that orchestra, I remember being transfixed by his attention to detail and his passion for the accurate rendering of Beethoven's wishes in our performance. As a conducting student in graduate school, I sought him out at his summer festival in Idaho and appreciated his approach and ideology even more after that. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for him to this day and can think of no better way to celebrate my promotion than to have his wonderful book on conducting become a part of our collection.
