Honoree's Remarks

I chose The English Teacher's Companion, Fourth Edition: A Completely New Guide to Classroom, Curriculum, and the Profession by Jim Burke because it symbolizes a common thread in my academic life. My academic career began in the English classroom. At 21, I started teaching English to high school students and my passion for English Language Arts curriculum has never wavered. I returned for my Ph.D. with the hopes of better preparing English Language Arts teachers to better meet the needs of all students in all classrooms. This textbook is the textbook I use when I teach methods to pre-service teachers. I teach and advise in, as well as coordinate the English Education program here at UTA. At the same time, this program is where I conduct research on college and career readiness and pre-service English Language Arts teachers. This book is a staple in the curriculum and that makes it a valuable part of the work I do. It is an honor to be able to add this book to the library’s collection.
