Honoree's Remarks

This book celebrates the profound impact women have had on the choral arts, questions some of the conventional attitudes about conducting and gender, and explores the work of pioneering female choral conductors such as Ann Howard Jones and Margaret Hillis. Although female choir directors are very common in public schools and churches, they are in the minority in colleges and universities. I found it particularly inspiring to hear the stories and unique challenges these women have faced in the academy.
