Honoree's Remarks

This book offers invaluable solutions, advice and hard-earned wisdom that will help African-American faculty survive and thrive in academia.  Recognizing the differences among minorities, it provides various scenarios of how one can become trapped and unsuccessful if one is not intentional concerning what it takes to obtain tenure at different types of institutions.

For an African-American scholar, such as myself, who was the only minority (and female for quite some time) in my department, navigating the tenure process can be lonely and tough.   This book deals with those realities yet holds the scholar accountable for doing the job effectively with no excuses.
