Honoree's Remarks

Paul Avrich (1931-2006) was a pioneer historian of immigrant radicalism in the United States, and renowned for his ability to portray its participants as fully fleshed-out human beings. This book--composed of over 180 interviews that Avrich conducted with participants in over a century of American anarchist movements, as well as their family member and friends--is the culmination of an extraordinary historian's career, an exemplary work of oral history, and an indispensable resource for all subsequent scholars of the topic (myself included).
