Honoree's Remarks

Lewis Binford will be best remembered for relentlessly driving the field of archaeology to become a self-critical and theoretically sophisticated discipline. This text is his last major work, and is a magnificent compendium on human behavioral ecology, not least for its stimulating hypotheses and the path he suggests to theory-building. It will be useful to readers in any discipline interested in the interplay among human behavior, society, and environment.
