Honoree's Remarks

The co-author of Landscapes in History; Design and Planning in the Eastern and Western Traditions, Nancy Jeanne Volkman was an associate professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at Texas A&M University. She was one of my professors during my graduate education, later a colleague, co-teacher, co-author, mentor, and a very close friend within the past decade. She was diagnosed with cancer nearly two years ago and passed away last month. This is the only book she co-authored, but she was working on three other book projects in her final years. She was not only an exceptional scholar pioneering the role of women in Landscape Architecture in Texas, but also one of my supporters through my tenure at UT Arlington even in her final days. I would like to recognize her contribution to landscape architecture scholarship as well her contribution to my personal development. She will be dearly missed.
