Vinyl heat press to the UTA FABLAB

Honoree's Remarks

The equipment is significant to my practice as well as providing for the creative activity of my students.  With the heat press, students can make custom T-shirts and attach patterns for fabric quickly, using digital imagery of their own making. The possibilities here are wide open--students can self-publish t-shirts for their own teams, groups, or organizations, for protest, or simply to start their own fashion line. In my studio practice I am currently examining the power of the funerary t-shirt, portraiture, and its role in Black communities. This equipment allows me to see how DIY shirts can be made, use it, and point students to the process.
