Open Education Week 2024

Schedule of Events: March 4-8, 2024

Open Textbook workshop

Monday, March 4, 12-1pm, Central Library 109 and Virtual

Open textbooks can alleviate the burden of educational costs for students and provide faculty with content that can be customized for their courses. Open textbooks are full, real textbooks, used by many faculty across the country, including here at UTA. They are licensed to be freely used, edited, and distributed. Many are also accompanied by customizable slides, test banks, and other supplemental materials.

Attend an open textbook workshop to discover open textbooks in your field. After the workshop, you’ll be asked to write a short review of an open textbook from the Open Textbook Library. Your review will benefit other faculty considering open textbooks, and you’ll receive a $200 stipend for your participation and written review.

Everyone is welcome to attend the workshop, but only university employees classified as faculty are eligible to receive a stipend.

An RSVP is recommended to attend this event. This will be a hybrid session, and lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.

This Is My OER

Tuesday, March 5, 2-3pm, Central Library 109

Many students are not aware that OER exist, and this has caused students to miss out on potential opportunities and benefits they could obtain and use in their academic journey. Therefore, this event is established and designed to attract students to learn and grow in the knowledge of OER that will hopefully enhance their college experience.

This is a drop-in session for student attendees with presentations starting every 15 minutes. Prizes will be available for the first 25 students, and snacks will be provided.
