Many grants, funding agencies, and research publications now require that you deposit your data in an open access data repository. Data sharing is being adopted in many scientific communities as a way to make data accessible to others. This has been attributed mainly to the 2013 mandate from the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy, which calls for researchers to make the results of federally funded research publicly accessible. UTA Libraries provides support in managing, archiving, and meeting data mandates with UTA's local data repository, UTA Mavs Dataverse.

UTA Mavs Dataverse is a member of the Texas Data Repository (TDR), a consortium of nine Texas academic libraries. Mavs Dataverse serves as an open access repository for the sharing and preservation of The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) research data. The repository contains data sets produced by the UTA community that are available for public access and reuse. Data sets deposited to the UTA Mavs Dataverse are given a citation and persistent link, increasing attribution, usage tracking, impact measurement, and visibility of research.

Researchers can deposit a wide variety of category-III data and related electronic materials to Mavs Dataverse, including spreadsheets, sensor and instrument data, surveys, GIS data, and imagery, along with associated material such as codebooks or data dictionaries. Any individual file uploaded to the repository must be under 4GB.

UTA Libraries provides support through Research Data Services (RDS) in managing data. The UTA Research Data Portal provides a one stop shop that gives you access to all the data management support and resources provided across campus. More information about the Mavs Dataverse's scope and related information can be found here: UTA Data Repository Scope & Policy
