Open Source Licensing: Does It Matter?

With over fifty different open sources licenses approved in some part by "leaders" in the Open Source community, open source licensing can be confusing. This presentation will take a look into the origin, politics and motivations around licensing in the open source world.

Stable Diffusion: How Community Contributions Shape the Future of Generative AI

Presented by: Callum Knitowski, Library Specialist

This presentation will explore the advancement of generative AI by contrasting the community’s growth and contributions to Stable Diffusion, a free and open source image generation network, with corporate efforts such as OpenAI’s Dall-E, Adobe Firefly, and even StabilityAI’s own efforts with Stable Diffusion. The community’s efforts have not only advanced Stable Diffusion, but the entire landscape of generative AI by introducing new ways to utilize the technology, as well as new ways to further control the generation’s outcomes.

Open Data Workshop

Presented by: Rubab Shahzad (Data Visualization Librarian), Ryan Hendrick (Data Management Librarian), Morgan Rowe-Morris (Multidisciplinary Librarian), and Abhijit Challapalli (Libraries GRA)

This workshop will introduce what open data is, why is it important, and where it can be reliably found. We will go over open data policies, open data management plans, and different types of open datasets. This workshop will include a discussion of the ethics of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Open Science research with case studies/examples.

They’ll discuss their educational backgrounds, whether they got any training on these topics, how they’ve navigated the topics during their careers, and where they think open access is going in the art world future!
